ALIA New Graduates GroupAnne Encourages New Graduates to Go NorthMelbourne "Ok, there's crocodiles", Anne Devenish admitted to the group of 10-15 New Graduates gathered on Tuesday March 13 at a Melbourne CBD pub to hear her talk about the benefits of working in the top end. But she didn't dwell on the fact, having far too many positive things she had to say about opportunites available to the Darwinian Librarian.
These opportunities include:
Anne was prompted to organise her informal chat with southern new grads by the present availability of three positions at the Northern Territory Library (application deadline 14 March!). She was keen to highlight that the NTL is a great environment in which to work, being a historic building situated at parliament house (just imagine mixing with all the pollies at the cafe at lunch time...) The library also has an exciting program of events including heavy metal performances, interviews with songwriters and musicians (including one member of Midnight Oil, of no particular political persuasion) and, in a more traditional library bent, discussions with authors. Anne was also keen to point out that a move to the top end doesn't necessarily mean for life. Apparently, The NTL is happy to take people for as little as a year at a time. So you can rent out your 5 room Toorak mansion on the hill and still have the the opportunity of a tropical library adventure, without jeopardising what you've got going on in the land of black. So basically what's stopping you? Ok, there are a couple of crocodiles... For further information, contact Anne Devenish, anne.devenish@nt.gov.au (please remove '.nospam' from address). |
