Other business
The local history librarians group now back with membership in ALIA. Elaine Craig (convenor) and Paul Michell are to represent us.
Thanks to Moreland Library, Vicnet was charging Moreland for our e-mail address.
Anne Dixon's local history holdings list is being updated for the internet.
Elaine is investigating MyConnected community.
Paul mentioned about Vicnet cutbacks and that there needs to be an outside funding source.

Paul Michell - Darebin
- Northcote Library closing after 10 June for renovations.
- Two big projects on Northcote Town Hall anniversary of City of Darebin and looking at ethnic history in the area starting in the 1850s.
Tim Hogan - state library
- Newspaper librarian, manages the newspaper collection and the microfilming of newspapers.
- Presently conducting a review of newspapers to be microfilmed.
- Also investigating digitising newspapers.
- Developing more guides and services for people to use the collection.
- New guide to the newspaper reading room available.
Anne Burrows - state library.
- Tetlow list of publicans on microfiche is now published.
- 'Settlers in the Sun' conference very well-organised. Report on conference available.
- New State Library brochures available.
- Treasures of the State Library by Bev Roberts published this year, 2004.
- 4 July is expo day at the State Library.
Judy Bell - Boroondara
- Involved in the 150th anniversary of the Boroondara Roads Board.
Heather McKay - Yarra Melbourne
- 2005 one hundred years since North Melbourne stopped being a council in its own right and Hotham History projects has a number of events planned and Heather is preparing a biography of councillors and council employees in conjuction with the project.
Claire Sandell - Casey Cardinia
- Involved in upgrade of heritage study.
- Co/operating with State Library of New South Wales - the travelling Frank Hurley exhibition.
- Involved in soldier settlement reseach - Koo-wee-rup and Lang Lang.
- Feedback has been very good.
Mary Pritisanak - Moreland
- Coburg library closed due to flooding but now reopened.
Tanya Lewis - Moreland
- Moreland library has inherited a lot of local history and there is a lot to go through.
- Asked the group where to go to for information about conservation.
Christine Worthington - Prahran Mechanics
- 150-year anniversary and had an exhibtion launched by the local member of parliament.
- Received a $10 000 grant and will start to publish local histories.
Lina Favrin - Yarra Melbourne
- Have a field historian until end of June, who is going through all the archives.
- Rate books and newspapers scanned on CD-ROM.

Marnie Weinrich - Yarra Melbourne
- Redevelopment of Richmond library.
- East Melbourne branch closed for major redevelopment and new local history area.
- Richmond and Burnley Historical Society , Robyn Jackson putting out an information on researching historic houses and genealogy in Richmond.
Elaine Craig - Whitehorse
- Explained that Whitehorse collections are paper based- mainly council reports and local histories. The historical societies in the area collect realia. Whitehorse struggling with the new XP on Spydus, if anyone wants help with this ring Elaine as she will be the coming expert.
Kay Rowan - Port Phillip
- Preparing two historical talks for the Bayside U3A and the Port Phillip U3A.
- The Library and the records department of the CoPP, organised an exhibtion 'In sickness and in health' that started in September of last year and kept being extended and finished in March.
Next meeting
Organised by Robin Luczynski and Michael Smith, it is at the Living Museum of the West, on Tuesday 10 August 2004.
Peter Haffendenm the director will be taking the tour.
