Tour
The group was given a tour of the centre by Lindsay Cox. A brief history of the Salvation Army heritage centre. Lindsay Cox is the archivist for the Salvation Army heritage centre. The Salvation Army's Australia southern territory raised a heritage commission in 1983, and the centre was established the following year. The museum presents Salvation Army history in Australia from 1880 to the present day. A range of artifacts is on display in the museum, showing the development of social work, Salvation Army literature, how the Salvation Army served in the armed forces, evolution of the uniform and the changes in music and music-making.
The archive component of the centre contains a wealth of material such as biographies, autobiographies, history, orders and regulations, doctrine books, music publications and social publications. Photographs are also available (with images being digitised as they are requested). There is a database that Lindsay can search if you are trying to research someone who was a member of the Salvation Army.
Other business
Triad once hosted LH collections/databases which use InMagic or DB Textworks on their website. They will now charge for this service. This has affected many LH groups and libraries.
The 'local history holdings on microfiche' list is still travelling around, slowly being updated. Please let Elaine Craig know if your library service hasn't updated their part of the list.
