Objects of the Association the group aims to meet

Object 3: To ensure the high standard of personnel engaged in information provision and foster their professional interests and aspirations;

Object 5: To encourage people to contribute to the improvement of library and information services through support and membership of the Association.

Purpose of the group

The group aims to provide the structure and mechanisms which enable library technicians in Western Australia to gather together and develop their professional interests and aspirations.

Activities held over the past six months

The biennial pre-conference dinner was held in August, with guest speaker Peter Waltham. The dinner was well-attended and very successful. The dinner provided an opportunity for networking and for conference delegates to get together before attending the conference.

The conference debrief was also very well-attended, as those who were unable to attend the conference took the opportunity to hear about the presentations from the Conference Grant winner, Michaela Shepherdson, and other conference delegates.

Two committee meetings were held at which the program for 2004 was discussed and some preliminary organisation begun. Judy Allan took over as convenor and Thelma Allen as secretary. Our thanks to Judy Smith and Claire Stokes for their commitment and hard work in these positions.

The end-of-year dinner was very popular, attracting some rarely seen faces, proving that networking and social activities are well regarded.

The WALT Group Mentoring Program continued through the second half of the year and facilitators spoke to library technician students at Edith Cowan University and Perth Central TAFE recruiting for 2004.
