ALIA WA Library TechniciansDecember 2001: news from this monthHi folks Well it was great to see so many at the 'Hand me my whip' debate on 9 November. The teams had fun trying to convince the audience of their point of view, and I am sure Grant had a wonderful time threatening us all with his riding crop! Many witty statements were made on both sides, but my personal favourite was Matthew Patterson's advice on how to handle irate patrons by using that famous latin phrase - 'Te audire no possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure.' Which translated means - 'I can't hear you. I have a banana in my ear.' This was closely followed by learning about librarians and what they can do with hair pins! So to those who attended I hope you had as much fun as I did, and to those who couldn't make it you missed a really fun evening - but don't despair, enough interest was expressed in a 'rematch' that we may run another debate next year. Stay tuned! On Saturday 10 November, Stephen Coppins and I travelled to Bunbury to present a Job Application and Interview Skills workshop to the SWeLL group. It was a successful workshop, with lots of ideas being exchanged amongst the participants. Thank you to SWeLL for their hospitality and active participation! 13 November saw our last general meeting for the year. Minutes will be posted soon, including the date for the next general meeting which will be held in January some time. Finally, have a safe and Merry Christmas. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year! Bonnie Rae |
