November 2001: news from this month

Hello all, just a quick column this month!

Firstly many thanks to Lesley Wallace and Gill Westera for their presentations at the Metadata information evening held on 18 October.

It was very informative and well presented. I will write a fuller review for Decembers column, but suffice to say it was well worth attending! Our next, and last event for the year is a light hearted look at client services. Entitled 'Hand me my whip! Can you discipline your library users and still remain friends?' this is a Good News Week style debate on how strict is too strict in the new era of information specialism.

Can we be the friendly one stop information shop and still have rules? Or must we let our clients run free through our collections? Come and hear staff from Academic, Corporate, Public, and Museum libraries debate this important issue!

Stephen Coppins - our National Library Technicians Group president will be on the negative team, whilst the redoubtable Lothar will be on the affirmative. I too will be taking a stand along with some other very lively characters.

Grant Stone whom some of you may remember from the Library Technicians conference wrap up in September will be chair and keeping us all in line (?!)

It promises to be a fun evening! Details below or check out the flyer.
