ALIA WA Library Technicians

Minutes of the meeting: 23 August 2002

Education, fine arts and architecture library, University of Western Australia

Meeting opened: 5:45pm

Present: Judy Allan, Jenne Angel, Judy Smith, Wendy Morris, Claire Stokes, Jean Broomehill Maureen McAllister

Previous minutes:
Minutes of the previous general meeting of 20 August were read.

Business arising from previous minutes:

  • Member questionnaire
    This would provide a database of Western Australian library technicians, which would be used for networking etc purposes. Proceeding with this idea would be against ALIA's personal information-handling policy. Feedback was given in the NPC pt 1 report that we would support group-based e-communications that national office was considering.

Correspondence in/out:

  • List of new members from ALIA
    Claire to e-mail welcoming new members and to add their e-mail addresses to members e-mail list.
    Action: Claire
  • Invitation to attend Edith Cowan's graduation ceremony. Judy attended.
  • Judy e-mailed Information Enterprises about the possibility of support for the mentoring group, in terms of sponsorship and the possibility of a speaker. Judy waiting for further response. Action: Judy S
  • Letters sent out to speakers from recent mentoring events.

Section reports:

Group mentoring

  • Helena's interpersonal skills workshop is all that remains of the mentoree presentations.
  • Judy to contact Susan Fordham and tell her that the invoice for the internet workshop has been sorted out.

South-West Forum

  • Brenda has given her apologies - there is no report for the South West Forum

National Policy Congress

  • Judy (S) was our representative in the National Policy Congress, the regional section of which met twice before the Perth representative goes to Canberra. Judy received a good response from the group regarding the issues raised.

New business:

2003 program

  • Next years program has been set in preparation for submitting the budget to ALIA by 1 November.
  • Day of meeting - group agreed that Wednesday (first of the month if possible) would be the best day.
  • Proposed social gathering - 2 February (Sunday) at the Fremantle Arts Centre
  • First committee meeting of the year - 1 March. Venue to be decided.
