ALIA WA Library Technicians

Minutes of the meeting: 9 July 2001

Edith Cowan University, Mt Lawley Campus

Opened at: 6:00pm

  1. Present: Sandra Wilson, Judy Smith, Brenda Ellen, Jean Broomhall, Sharon Coppin, Judy Allen, Thelma Allen, Karen Shackleton, Judy Clayden.
    Guest: Glenn Pass

  2. Apologies: Bonnie Bruce, Wendy Monaghan, Beverly Dallas, Lothar Retzlaff, Robyn Graham

  3. Minutes of previous meeting:
    3.1 Minutes from 9 February were presented and accepted by Judy Allan, seconded by Sharon Coppin.

  4. Business arising from minutes:
    4.1 The WALTS Conference Grant has been awarded to ECU student, Mason Clarke at the Library and Information Week dinner hosted by WALTS at Rosie O'Grady's Northbridge in May.

    4.2 The South-West mini-conference in 2002 is in the planning stage.

    4.3 The new WALTs group structure and budget 2001-2002 has been accepted by ALIA

  5. Correspondence:
    5.1 In: General e-mails from LibTech commenting on the new ALIA fees structure, from Jennefer Nicholson re winding up procedures for all old divisions (archiving records, disposal of property, AGM)

    5.2 Out: Congratulatory letter and cheque to Mason Clarke.

    5.3 Out: Thank you letter to Marilyn Boydell for her presentation at the WALTS Library and Information Week dinner in May.

  6. Business arising from Correspondence:
    6.1 Mason has registered for the Tasmania Conference

  7. Treasurer's report:
    • Petty Cash to 20 June $270.02
    • Account #83 to 20 June $271.92
    • Total: $541.94

  8. General Business:
    8.1 WALTS committee
    • Reminder about the pre-conference get together at the Captain Stirling Hotel, 18 July at 6:00pm
    • WALTS to contact SWELL group re South-West mini conference in 2002.
    8.2 Branch Council report
    • Bonnie was attending a meeting tonight.

    8.3 Section reports: nil

    8.4 Next meeting venue: 14 August, tba.

  9. Other business
    9.1 After the meeting was closed, Judy Clayden delivered a presentation about ECU's 'virtual campus' and how this method of teaching is used within the School of Computer and Information Science. Details about Judy's presentation will be found in a future issue of Biblia.

  10. Close: The meeting closed at 6:25pm.
