3. Activities for 2006.
- University of Ballarat Visit for Orientation Saturday 11 February Kerrie, Kim and Gemma.
Kerrie, Kim and Gemma have been invited to speak, all students have to attend the orientation days, not just the first years. Kim will be presenting her paper, and Kerrie will mention what ALIA can do for those who join and mention the activities for the year.
- Mornington Book Bus visit, Balnarring, Saturday 25 February.
Linda is taking the rsvp's and we hope to have 12 attend the lunch.
- Hot off the press Friday 3 March Kerrie and Tricia
Once again we have had a lot of interest for this function. After speaking to a lecturer at Swinburne, it was decided not to save any spaces, as she thought it would be too expensive for students, and too early in the year. We have saved some spots for Box Hill, and also have had people as far away as Mildura, and Shepparton attending. We have agreed to allow two staff members from STOMP, and one from Vision Australia to be our guests, as they had sent in their registrations with the cheques. We will be having a presentation on cataloguing of non book material from a representative from SCIS, and also a talk on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) from 3M.
- Presentation - National treasures from Australia's greatest libraries exhibition, late April.
We thought that we would go on a Saturday, and have lunch afterwards for those who wanted to join us. Action Kerrie to arrange a date for this
- Committee meetings
April: To be held at RMIT.
May: We decided not to hold a meeting, as we would be getting together in May.
June: Clare and Libby agreed to host this meting.
- National Library Technicians day Tuesday 2 May.
We are assuming that we will once again be invited to speak to the students at VU, and then have dinner afterwards.
- Annual General Meal.
No venue for this as been arranged as yet,
- Techs on Tour 24 June.
A few suggestions were made as to which libraries we would offer the delegates to visit.
RACV - Action : Brad to see if his contact is still there, and to find out if they would be able to assist us.
Red Cross Library, Melbourne City Archive , St Patrick's and St. Paul's were also suggested.
It is hoped that we would be able to use the new café/restaurant, Mr Tuck's at the State Library, if it has opened. Kerrie is also to try and get other parts of the State Library on the itinerary especially in the areas of conservation, as are always very popular.
- River of Opportunities IV, Albury, November.
Claire and Libby have done a lot of work in getting the venue fixed, and we are going back to the Sundowner Hovel Tree. They are giving us a good rate, as we are return customers, and are offering us a good deal on the rooms at Corporate rate at 15% off. We agreed that we will hold it at this venue once again. We also agreed that we should ask if Kevin Dudeney is able to be treasurer for this event. Once again, we would only take the registration fee, and get ALIA NO to assist us, leaving attendees to book their own accommodation.
Action Clare and Libby are working on this, with assistance from Kerrie about content.
4. TAFE representatives
Recruitment
We already have a representative from :
Ballarat - Sian
Swinburne - Brad
Kerrie to once again contact the other TAFE's to see if we can get a volunteer
5. Technotes
The group did think it was a good idea to go online, as in order to view them, people would have to log in, to read these, Kim offered to look into how this should be done, and was planning to contact Tania as she already had experience in loading similar newssheets onto the ALIA webpage.
Action Kim has agreed to look into getting this done.
6. 'Melbourne- 20 years on...'2007 ALIA National Library and Information Technicians Conference
The group is very close to choosing the venue for this event, and it is hoped that at our next meeting this would be announced.
7. Convenor's report
Naturally Kerrie has received a large number of emails and phone-calls about hot off the press.
8. Treasurer's report
At the start of the year, we went back to zero dollars. It had been agreed that the event in December was to be divided between the two groups, ours and 2007, however, this did not occur. As a result it was suggested that the 2007 committee pay for this year's event. We hope to make a profit on Hot off the press again this year.
9. Other Business
Kerrie mentioned that we have 125 members.
The meeting closed at 7:30pm.
Next meeting will be on Tuesday 4 April, Swanston Library, RMIT in the conference room.
