2. Minutes of previous meeting

Amendments as follows:

  • Annual general meal - silver pin awarded to Tania Barry
  • Treasurers report - Refund from Sita bus company was for the cancelled disco techs tour

3. Activities for 2005

  • Post conference meeting, October. Kerrie reported that she had not heard from Box Hill TAFE and would follow this up.

  • Red Cross Library Tour, no response from the library. It was discussed that this may fit in better as a part of Techs on tour rather than a separate visit.

  • Afternoon tea for sponsors and supporters. Date changed to 5 December 2005, as previous date clashed with ALIA National Congress. Venue would be State Library of Victoria, with a tour of the Queens Hall space. Catering to consist of tea, coffee, juice, cakes and slices, the cost of which would be split between the Victorian ALIA Library Technicians group and the Team 2007, Melbourne conference group. Up to 50 to attend, including committees of these two groups and invitations extended to trade, teaching institutions, Tour libraries, ALIA and SLV. Kerrie to get a list of potential invitees together and e-mail to other committee members. Focus of this afternoon tea is a thank you for previous support to Techs on tour and other tour visits. A similar function may be held in 2006 to entice sponsorship and trade exhibits for 2007 conference.

  • End of year dinner to be held on 9 December 2005. Venue still to be decided upon. Claire and Libby to look into options of the Toorak Lion in Toorak and the Kent Hotel in Carlton.

4. Activities for 2006

  • University of Ballarat orientation day to be held on the 11 February, 2006. Kim has been asked to present her paper from neXt conference, as well as a presentation from other committee members about ALIA and the Lib Tech group. Further details from Jenny Leviston as the day is further organised. Jenny also requested that an ALIA membership package be available as a student academic prize for later in the year. Kerrie will contact ALIA national office.

  • Mornington Library visit to see book mobile, Kerrie waiting for confirmation of the date, currently the 25 February 2006.

  • Hot off the press - date set for the 3 March 2006. Kerrie to e-mail TAFE's re suitability of date. Possible visits to STOMP, (AV supplier), NILS (National Library and Information Service) and then RAECO for lunch. Kerrie and Brad to make contact with appropriate people and check if the date is ok and maximum numbers they can take.

  • Disco techs - This event was cancelled in 2005 and Tricia thought that it needed the benefits of organised library visits needed to be 'spelt out' especially to students. This event has been scheduled for October 2006.

  • Rivers of Opportunity 4. Lengthy discussion over a venue, with Albury being first preference and Canberra second. Clare and Libby will look into venues and facilities. Suggested date of November 2006.

  • Annual General Meal to be held in July, venue to be decided at a later date.

  • Techs on tour to be held 24th June 2006.

  • Technotes to continue, articles and photos to Kerrie please.

5. National ALIA Library Technician committee news

Report submitted from Kevin Dudeney. Clare has agreed to continue to represent our group on the national committee.

6. Team 2007 Melbourne conference news

Gail reported that a Professional Conference Organiser had been appointed, after three days of interviews. Eight companies had been approached, seven of those submitted tenders and five interviewed. The successful company was ICMS, a Melbourne based company. They have appointed a project manager to assist with selecting a venue and a business development manager who will assist with trade and sponsorship. Venues for the conference and the dinner are still to be decided.

7. Treasurers report

Tricia reported that we have a credit balance of $464 and that she is still chasing money from three people who haven't paid from Techs on Tour.

Meeting closed 7:50pm.
