ALIA South Australian Library Technicians

Minutes of the meeting: 20 January 2002

48 Wandana Terrace, Taperoo

  1. Meeting opened: 3:00pm

  2. Present: Sharron, Amanda, Kathy, Jennifer

  3. Apologies: Marion

  4. Business arising from the previous minutes:
    4.1. Group proposal - Sharron has submitted the Group Proposal but has had no response as yet. To be considered at the next Board of Directors meeting.

    4.2. Finalisation of previous Group - No advice.

    4.3. inCite monthly themes and deadlines - Sharron has requested information but no response as yet.

    4.4. Regional Groups - No advice.

    4.5. Riverland Regional Group - Sharron to check how many members of the Group are also members of ALIA. Kathy to advise the original understanding when Group was first formed regarding obligations between the Riverland Group, SALT and ALIA.

    4.6. Albury weekend workshop - Bus fare = $190.00 return Adelaide/Albury. Trip takes 15 hours via Melbourne. May be more economical to hire a car. Kathy to check and advise. Need 5 to go with 3 already committed ie Kathy, Amanda and Jennifer.

    4.7. Brisbane 2003 conference - No further action as this time.

    4.8. Planning for 2001:
    4.8.1. Mentoring - Leaflets are ready for printing in preparation for launch at next graduation at the end March. Kathy to advise exact date.
    4.8.2. Tour of IMVS Library - Kathy has tentative arrangement to visit Library before SALT meeting on 15 April.
    4.8.3. Professional Development event - Brochures without tears. Kathy to follow up and advise.
    4.8.4. Techs on Tour - Arrangement confirmed to look at Bob Hawke Library. No librarian at Roma Mitchell Arts Centre.
    Kathy to check in early February. Sharron to verify City West. Pullman Room at Casino suggested for dinner. Jennifer to check and advise cost.
    4.8.5. Mount Brecken weekend workshop - Now the weekend 2-3 November. Need to forward $100.00 deposit within two weeks.

  5. Correspondence in:
    5.1. Guidelines for weekend workshops - Bonny-Rae Bruce has again requested these guidelines.

  6. Correspondence out:
    6.1. None

  7. Any other business:
    7.1. Joint function with InfoScience and ARCOM - suggested half-day seminar on how technology has affected our jobs. Need a response from committee re interest. Sharron to try to get more information before final response.
