ALIA Queensland Library Technicians: The social pagesToowoomba library tour and bus tripSharon Uthmann ALIA Qld Library Technician Group committee member (QUT) Another early start (I see a trend developing here), was required for the 20 participants of the QLD ALIA Library Technicians Toowoomba library tour and bus trip. At 7:45am we departed from the Eternal Flame in Brisbane and headed to Toowoomba. After an entertaining bus ride, in which Anne Horn won the lucky door prize of chocolates, we arrived at our first destination - Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery. Jayson Althofer gave us an informative and excellent tour of both the art gallery and the Lionel Lindsay Library. He shared with us some precious historical pictorial items outlining some early explorers explorations. The items were so old that white gloves are required to handle them.
From there we drove around to the Toowoomba City Library Access Centre to meet with library manager, Roslyn Cousins, and have morning tea. After tea, Roslyn gave a tour of the wonderful Toowoomba City Library and gave us an insight into the 'behind the scenes' technical services and staffing. Toowoomba Library is quite a busy library and Roslyn and her staff have done a wonderful job in the layout and presentation, as well as the service provided. I managed to pick up another library bag to add to my collection while there.
Toowoomba Local History Library followed. Jane and Denise told us all about the collection and the information they provide to the citizens of Toowoomba. From there we headed to Queens Park for lunch. Cobb & Co Museum coffee shop provided a wonderful lunch for some and others found other food outlets to feed from. A walk through the flower display completed the hour. Warrego Wines was the pit stop for the way home, where we were given a tour of the wine making journey and allowed to taste some of the products. Thank you to Margaret Mowberry who assisted me in the organising and planning of the tours and to those that came along for the ride! |
