ALIA Queensland Library Technicians
AGM minutes
Meeting held on 11 June 2003 at BCC Library in Adelaide Street.
Guest Speaker
Jennifer introduced Glenn Bourner of the State Library of Queensland. Glenn outlined the details of the extensive refurbishment and re-design of the state library and the construction of the new modern art complex. He presented the new plans and also some slides of computerised impressions of the whole new complex, complete with landscaping, car parking and walkways. Glenn also gave an interesting and amusing account of their whirlwind tour of other large libraries in Europe, Asia and North America. On completion, the new library and art centre will be a wonderful and welcome asset to the city of Brisbane.
Jennifer thanked Glenn for his interesting presentation and presented him with a gift.

Treasurer's report
Helen Trochoulias presented the report. There will be $446.70 in our account with ALIA after payment of all annual dinner expenses. The dinner proved very successful, with a net profit of $118.00 which accounts for the increase from last year. The other meetings held during the year were held at a slight loss or profit. The requirement of the group is to be self-funding.

Guest speaker
After the meeting, Yvonne Brock, convenor of the 12th ALIA National Library Technicians Conference addressed the gathering. The committee still has the same 8 members for the past four years.
- Special announcement - there will now be a special discount rate for full time library tech students of $429.00 which is a discount of $96.00. An e-mail was sent out to the aliaLIBTEC list today (copy attached). This rate will be held for up to four weeks prior to the conference. This has been made possible by the exceptional support from sponsorship and trade.
- 142 registrations have been received to date.
- Unfortunately no shared registration is available - it presents administration problems and incurs extra costs with extra 'showbags' and catering. Also they would only benefit the Brisbane techs.
- There have been expressions of interest from places such as the Netherlands, Fiji, and New Zealand. Tonga was also looking for sponsorship of two or three library people. Partial assistance with homestay (billeting) might be possible.
- Posters - three have been received to date. This is an opportunity to present a 'mini'; paper - held during the lunch break.
- Members of the trade have been invited to give 10-minute presentations - two per day.
- Sponsorship for the dinner is still required - suggestions were called for and members urged to think of any possible contacts, not necessarily strictly library related.
Yvonne concluded the presentation, urging us all to attend, whether sponsored by our workplaces or not, to take responsibility for our own CPD - the conference will be thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile.
