ALIA NSW Library Technicians2006Report of the 2006 convener of the NSW Library Technicians group. This will be the final report for this year. The group has done a number of events this year including:
A small group had dinner on National library Technicians Day. One Umbrella kindly donated some prizes and guess who won a prize. The backpack was greatly appreciated. A group of 12 technicians went on Techs on tour in July. The group visited Shore school (private boys college), Stanton Public Library and Australian Catholic University. At each of the libraries an excellent talk was given on the activities and specialization. During the year we have held meetings in various libraries around Sydney. Holyrod library, located at Merrylands, where Stephen Coppins gave a brief description of his position which deals with local history. Continuing with this theme our next meeting was held at Bankstown Public Library. We were very privileged to have Kathy Neilsen to give a report on the local history project of the Bankstown area. Our visit to Sutherland Library in September we had a joint meeting with CYSS group and discussions were held on holding joint event next year. I also presented the prizes at the Sydney graduation of technicians. I was glad to see so many friendly faces in the audience (volunteers from the conference last year). Photographs of some of these events can be viewed on our social page located at http://www.alia.org.au/groups/libtnsw/social I was also very privileged to attend and present a paper at the New Zealand Library Conference (LIANZA) in October. In conclusion I would like to thank the committee for making my term as convener an excellent and exciting one. |
