ALIA Library Technicians (ACT)July-December 2001 reportTo date, the Group has met all it's purpose and goals set including the promotion of the association, encouragement to students and newly qualified technicians, with an emphasis on networking and mentoring. We are represented at monthly meetings held by ACTive ALIA and we regularly contribute a column to their newsletter that is also distributed to our members. Outlined below are the activities of the Group: July Election of Office-bearers for the year 2001/2002 (July to July) and after the meeting we went out to dinner to the Hog's Breath Café. The CIT Restaurant cancelled our annual Cool Yule dinner at short notice and we were unable to make an alternate booking. On Wednesday 18 July Beth Clary and Margaret Drury attended the 12th Annual Prize Presentation for the CIT Faculty of Business and Information Technology of which the Library and Information Studies is a part. Phung Quach won the Encouragement Award with a book voucher given by the Library Technicians group to the value of $75.00. August For those attending the Library Technicians Conference 21-24 August in Hobart we had a get together on Tuesday 7 August 5:30pm at the Waldorf on London (on London Circuit) for coffee. The two recipients to receive sponsorship awards to the Library Technicians conference was Aska Moir (Student Technician) and Beth Clary (Graduate Technician). Forty people from the ACT attended the 11th National Library Technicians Conference in Hobart. Marion Boyd received the Library Technician of the Year Award for 2001 at the Library Technicians Conference. Representatives of the Group attended the ACTive ALIA winter dinner. SeptemberA post-conference dinner was held at the CIT Restaurant with 20 people attending. October Christine Harney (a member of the Group) from the Australian National University Library organised a tour of the University's newly refurbished Hancock Library. Christine also provided us with light refreshments. We had 15 people attended. While we were there Aska Moir and Beth Clary gave us their reports on what they gained and experienced by having an opportunity to attend the Library Technicians Conference in Hobart. Copies of their reports have been submitted to ACTive ALIA for publication. November No Activities December As an end-of-year Christmas party we will all be getting together to celebrate a successful and eventful 2001. We have invited Donna Reid from the CIT. Donna is a much loved and respected teacher of students who did the Association Diploma of Arts in Library and Information Studies during the 1980s and early-1990s and Head of Department. Donna has been away from the teaching for some time now but remained on staff at the CIT and a strong supporter of Library Technicians. Donna is about to retire and we would like to wish her well in her new career. To date, we have had no changes to our proposed budget expenditure and income for this period of time. Attached is a copy of our Treasurer's Report. Please note that because we do not produce our own newsletter and use the newsletter of ACTive ALIA, we would like to ensure ACTive ALIA receives the appropriate funding to cover costs. Thank you
