ALIA Information Science (SA) 2008 Report of events

Libraries changing spaces, virtual places. Find out about the profound impact that over forty years of automation is now having on the nature of libraries, including their relationships with their communities Speakers from various institutions including:

Held at the Ira Raymond room, Barr Smith Library. Audience included professionals from academic and special libraries.

2. Wednesday 28 May 9-12pm Implementing RFID in a Morning!!: Come and learn all about RFID - what it is, how to implement it and the advantages to your library with Leona Jennings, Gold Coast City Council Library Service.
Leona Jennings discussed how she implemented RFID at the Gold Coast City Council Library. Leona won the 2007 Information Online award for Excellence

Held at the Mawson Centre, Mawson Centre - City of Salisbury Public Library

Mawson Lakes. Audience included professionals from public, academic and special libraries.

3. Tuesday 30 September 2008 ALIA Information Science Group (SA) and the University of South Australia Library present: 'Open source: dollars and sense' Get the real sauce on Open Source!!
Speakers include:

Held at the H6-12 (Hawke Building), City West Campus University of SA. Audience included professionals from academic and special libraries.

4. Thursday 27 November 2008 ALIA Information Science Group (SA) presents: 'From Japan to Scandinavia - a carbon neutral tour around the world'
Speakers include:

Tricia Genat, Managing Director ALS Library Services - Scandinavia
Christopher O'Malley, Flinders University Library - Hiroshima, Japan

Ira Raymond Room, Barr Smith Library, University of Adelaide. Audience included professionals from academic and special libraries.

Attendance figures:

Average attendance figures for the 2008 events were around 30.

Collaborative events:

Of the four events held in 2008, one was a collaborative event with the University of South Australia Library

Committee meetings:

A total of 9 meetings were held during the year.
