ALIA Information Literacy ForumApril 2007 NewsletterWho are we?ALIA Information Literacy Forum fosters a common understanding of and advocates for information literacy within ALIA and the general community. The Forum promotes professional development opportunities in information literacy for library and information services personnel. Membership 2007Our 538 members come from all states, overseas and from a variety of sectors.
The 'other' members include students, retired librarians, national/state and government, as well as a wide range such as joint use libraries. Recent EventsNLS3 Satellite Event The ALIA Information Literacy Forum held a one day event of information literacy workshops, information sessions and case study labs as a pre-colloquium to the 3 New Librarians' Symposium held in Sydney December 1-2, 2006 at UNSW. The event was held in late November at UNSW Library. The program included putting information literacy into practice, an indigenous model of information literacy and the corporate librarian and information literacy. Details of the program and facilitators can be found at the forum website. Information Online 2007 Information Online 2007 was held at Darling Harbour in Sydney from 30th January to 1st February 2007. Speakers covered a range of topics including information security, knowledge management, managing in the virtual world and managing with disruptive technologies. The Organising Committee developed this program to challenge and inspire delegates from all aspects of the information sector. Papers and presentations are now available from the conference website. LILAC 2007 The CILIP CSG Information Literacy Group's annual conference was recently held in Manchester. Conference themes included advocacy, marketing and promotion, practical approaches to information literacy and information literacy and citizenship. Christine Bruce from the Faculty of Information Technology QUT was a keynote speaker. Summary information is available from the conference website. Upcoming EventsWorld Library and Information Congress: 73rd IFLA General Conference and Council, Durban, South Africa, 19-23 August 2007 The Information Literacy Section (IL) and the Academic and Research Libraries Section (ARL) of IFLA are planning a joint open program at the World Library and Information Congress. Papers will relate to the program theme: Conduits for Transformation: Incorporating Multimodal Instruction and Learning into Information Literacy. ANZIIL Symposium Series Seven, Why we do what we do: theory and action, Monday 29 - Tuesday 30 October 2007 Symposium 7 continues ANZIL's popular series of practical, case study driven symposia on information literacy. The Hobart Symposium will provide a theoretic basis for librarians to think about and apply in teaching programs, collaboration for curriculum development, and other services that develop information literacy in tertiary education. Further details will be added to the symposium site as they become available. Registrations open at the end of April. First Annual Gaming, Learning, and Libraries Symposium, Chicago, 22-24 July 2007 ALA TechSource in collaboration with the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) is sponsoring the first annual gaming, learning and libraries symposium for academic, public and school libraries. More than 25 sessions will cover topics such as creating games for information literacy, implementing gaming programs, teaching kids how to make their own games, gaming for adults, digital downloads for gamers, online fiction games, and more.
