3rd International Evidence Based Librarianship Conference

210 delegates attended the 3rd International Evidence Based Librarianship Conference, held in Brisbane from 16-19 October. Catherine Clarke (UWA), Alan T Schroeder, Jr (California State University) and Fei Yu, Jan Sullivan and Leith Woodall's (UQ) papers on IL are available to download on the conference website. Summaries are also available for IL papers given by Gill Needham (Open University Library and Learning Resources Centre, UK), Anne Parkhill (Monash Institute of Health Services Research and Aptly Information Design) and Denise Koufogiannakis (University of Alberta Libraries, Canada).

Helen Partridge (Information Literacy Forum Secretary) was co-convenor of this very successful four day event. Lesley Ngatai (information literacy forum convenor) and Helena Zobec (forum executive committee member) attended. One of the highlights was the collaborative process undertaken by all presenters to help the delegates reach an understanding of what EBL is so we came away not only with a deeper understanding of the theory, issues and challenges, we also had a handful of practical approaches so we can now not only write in a scholarly way about our professional discipline we are also better equipped to write evidence based submissions to our funding bodies and management. Lesley.

Colloquium on Information Literacy and Lifelong Learning - Bibliotheca Alexandrina

In early November, UNESCO, the International Federation for Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and the National Forum on Information Literacy (NFIL) co-sponsored an international meeting of information literacy and lifelong learning experts, including Australian delegates Alex Byrne and Phil Candy. The purpose of the colloquium was to share ideas on how information literacy is being introduced and implemented in the delegate's respective regions and countries. The organisers hope that the most promising ideas and approaches drawn form the colloquium will be adopted by multiple regions and countries, and, perhaps in a few instances, worldwide. For more information see the colloquium website.
