ALIA Information Literacy Forum

Meeting minutes

Monday 10 October 2005

Present: Lesley Ngatai, Helena Zobec, Liz Burke, Mark Jones, Anne-Maree Lloyd
Apologies: Mandy Lupton, Helen Partridge

Anne gave apologies for next meeting on 13 December.

Jenny S. reported she had a huge response to her TAFE survey on the information literacy standards.

Liz and Lesley mentioned the end of year report and request for group funding next year need to be written pretty soon (4 November).

Discussion followed around the following points:

  • The auto response members receive when they join the e-list.
Action: Mark to circulate. Committee to add comments.

  • The NPC and what we might report to the ALIA executive.
e.g. In 2005 the group has been -
    • Reviewing its role and looking at new ways to engage its members in discussion, debate and reflective practice within the framework of an online community of practice, via the e-list.
    • Attempting to foster a collegial environment where vigorous debate might take place.
    • Looking at ways to draw its members into a discursive community of practice.

These considerations may assist the forum to refine or restate its focus and role for its members in 2006.

Question: Is there a particular group or library with an issue to discuss - would they be willing to lead an online discussion in this area?

Action: Anne to send Mark a question we might ask along these lines.

Meeting ended: 4:45pm.

Next meeting: 4:00pm 13 December 2005.
