ALIA Information Literacy ForumMeeting minutesThursday 12 February 2004 1. WelcomeDue to the last minute notice given for today's meeting there were only three of us present, Jane Knowles (College of Fine Arts UNSW) Liz Burke (La Trobe University) and myself (Physical Sciences Library UNSW). 2. ApologiesApologies sent from Tracy Crisp, Helen Partridge, Sharon Uthmann, Mark Jones, Cathy Costa, and Lyn Macintosh. 3. Treasurer's report (Liz Burke)Liz has some petty cash receipts to redeem. The process seems rather circuitous. ALIA sends her the forms, she sends them to me to sign then they go back to ALIA. Perhaps we can check whether ALIA has the forms on their web page to reduce the steps. ALIA has approved the group's application for 2004. This of course also includes our financial estimates for the year. They have made the provision that we encourage members to join the e-list, this way they will receive a message to visit the webpage when the newsletter is mounted, thus cutting down on the costs of a hard copy mail out. The mail out is still an option for overseas members. 4. Newsletter (Liz and Jane)Jane and Liz have already been communicating about the newsletter. Liz has agreed to send Georgina Dale (ALIA general office) the information she requested about the group for the next issue of InCite. This will be with Georgina by 1 March. Jane said the first newsletter will take the shape of the last year's inaugural issue i.e. who we are what we do and how many we are (about 600 although membership is fluid). This will probably go to ALIA late March for early April release on the website. 5. Role and purpose of groupIt was agreed that the role and purpose of the group as stated on our webpage was a sufficient generic statement about the group's purpose and scope. If anyone had other aspects they wished to add or hilight please bring to next meeting. 6. Meeting datesThose present agreed to have another teleconference meeting in the weeks around 15 or 22 March. Please think about which days and times you are available. I would ask you to consider the secretary's unavailability this semester on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Items not discussed but still on the table:
I hope to send around a list of names with some information re: where we all come from to give you an idea of the great coverage the committee has this year both geographically and professionally. |
