NOTE: ALIA NSW Far North Coast Regional Group Convenor and Treasurer will continue in their respective positions for 2007; the Secretary will be standing down and a new Secretary will be proposed at the 2007 AGM to be held in either February or May 2007.

Proposed program summary: January to December 2007

There are 4 meetings proposed for 2007: February, May/June, August/September, November. Dates and places for each event will be organised for suitable times throughout the year. Members will be notified on the elist a few weeks before each event.

Please note that members pay for their own meals and drinks when attending dinner meetings.

Activity suggestion list provided by members at 30 November 2006 meeting:

Visit by ALIA President, Ms Dagmar Schmidmaier AM, ALIA Executive director, Ms Sue Hutley, and ALIA Qld Local Liaison Officers Ms Helen Partridge and Ms Claudia Davies.

Jennifer Kirton, ALIANSWFNC Convenor to arrange a dinner meeting with colleagues in the Coffs Harbour region early in 2007.

Request a visit by NSW State Librarian, Ms Regina Sutton.

Lismore Living Library Richmond Tweed Regional Library. This is a new program where library patrons may go to the Lismore branch on certain dates during the year and 'borrow' one of several volunteer persons from the community to learn something specific relating to that person.
Invite the organisers and/or a participant in the Lismore Living Library program to talk to our Group.

Members are invited to deliver conference papers / give reports on attendance at Conferences/ Workshops (eg Online Conference Jan 2007). In addition, SCU University Librarian, Des Stewart has offered to open SCU library conference report sessions to ALIA members and any interested library personnel (with the agreement of the conference/workshop attendee).

Venue: Manning Clarke Room, Library, Southern Cross University Lismore, Wednesday 14 February. Time to be confirmed on ALIAFNC elist.

Activity: Visit by ALIA President and Executive Officers

It is hoped that ALIA President Ms Dagmar Schmidmaier AM, ALIA Executive Director Ms Sue Hutley, and ALIA Qld Local Liaison Officers Ms Helen Partridge and Ms Claudia Davies will be available to attend our meeting on Wednesday 14 February 2007. The ALIA President and Executive would meet with the ALIANSWFNC institutional members and individual members, as well as other library personnel from the NSW FNC Region.

This would be the Group's major activity for the year. The proposed visit by this delegation from ALIA Head Office has been much anticipated and appreciated by our members. However, up to now there has been difficulty in arranging a date which suits all members of the ALIA delegation.

Purpose:
To provide an opportunity for library people from the Far North Coast region to meet with senior elected and appointed personnel from the ALIA Head Office in Canberra and Liaison Officers based in Queensland.

To provide an opportunity for senior members of the ALIA National Association to meet with regional institutional and individual ALIA members and potential members in a relaxed and friendly environment, creating more personal and direct contact with our professional association. To report on the 2006 National Advisory Congress and other ALIA matters.
An opportunity to recognise the contributions made by regional members to ALIA with the presentation of ALIA silver medal awards by senior ALIA representatives.

For members and potential members to gain better understanding of the role and functions of ALIA as a professional body and the mutual benefits of membership.

To enable senior members of the ALIA national body to have a better awareness of some of the differences in operating as a regional ALIA Group, being a regional ALIA member, and working in the library and information sector in a regional area.

To promote ALIA as a professional body to members and potential new members, and thereby encourage new members to join ALIA and our Regional Group.

To provide an opportunity for local library personnel professional development and support, learning, networking, social contact, and friendship at the meeting

Alternate activity for February 2007

If the 14 February 2007 is not a suitable date for the ALIA President and Executives, the ALIANSWFNC Group will conduct the AGM Election of Office Bearers for 2007 and organise an alternative activity / speaker for this meeting.

Activity: AGM for 2007
Purpose: To elect or confirm the office bearers for 2007.
To provide an opportunity for local library personnel professional development and support, learning, networking, social contact, and friendship at the meeting

Activity: Activity from suggestion list to be advised.
Dinner to follow at a nearby venue
Purpose: Social and educational activity.
To provide an opportunity for local library personnel professional development and support, learning, networking, social contact, and friendship at the meeting.

Month: March 2007 coffs harbour region

Activity: Jennifer Kirton (Convenor) and any other interested ALIAFNC members to meet with Coffs Harbour members of ALIA FNC Group in Coffs Harbour on a date to be arranged.
Purpose: An opportunity for the Convenor, Jennifer Kirton and other ALIA FNC members to maintain friendly contact with ALIA members and potential members in the southern part of our region; to facilitate the interchange of ideas, concerns, and developments in the profession in our respective local areas; to network, inform, and socialise with members who are distant geographically.
To provide an opportunity for members and potential new members for professional development and support, learning, networking, social contact, and friendship, at the meeting and the dinner.

If the AGM was not held in February, It will be held at this meeting in May.

Activity: AGM for 2007

The aliaFNCNSW elist is an ongoing activity. (see next section)

The aliaFNCNSW elist acts as a forum for members and is a major means by which the members of the Group receive and provide information and communicate with each other between meetings. In addition, meeting notices, agenda, minutes, ALIA and other library and information news, and items of interest to members are provided through this e-list and also on the ALIA Group website.

If an activity is free, gold coin donation, or members pay for their own meal it is not necessary to include it in the following information.
