ALIA Far North Coast GroupNewsletterNovember 1999AGM & Christmas dinner
Time & date: Wednesday 24 November 6:00 for 6:30 pm Previous meetingHeld on 22 September 1999, Wollongbar Dept of Agriculture. Many thanks to Narendra and Bina Anuj for preparing and cooking a terrific barbecue for us. We all enjoyed the food and company very much. Minutes: Attached are minutes from 2 meetings: 22 July and 22 September 1999 Library technicians newsApologies for the dominance of Library Technicians news, but unfortunately there were no news items from Regional Libraries for this issue. NSW library technicians section representative, nsw far north coast From July, the NSW Library Technicians Section has a representative in the New South Wales Far North Coast area. Louise Somerville from the Goonellabah Public Library, has taken up the position of Far North Coast Representative on the Section's committee.
At this stage Louise will be representing the Section at the ALIA Far North Coast Regional Group meetings, but is more than happy to hear from any Library Technicians, Library Assistants, Assistant Library Technicians, Senior Library Technicians, Library Officers, Volunteers or Students in the area. Library technicians conference 8-10 September 1999 In September the 10 ALIA National Library Technicians Conference, Projections/ Reflections: Our Heritage and Our Future 2000 and Beyond was held at Fremantle Western Australia. Over 300 Library Techs attended the Conference, including the delegates from this Region - Glenda Kimmins and Sharon Hill (SCU, Lismore), Jill Baker (SCU Coffs Harbour), Lainey Furness (Lismore Base Hospital Library), and Caroline Cussons (RTRL Public Library). Fremantle is a very appealing and interesting city, with beautiful heritage limestone buildings. We arrived with suitcases of summer clothes, not prepared for the coldest weather in 28 years! Some of us had the opportunity to do some sightseeing and shopping and have a coffee or two on the Cappuccino Strip. We all enjoyed getting together for a dinner with the other NSW Library Techs, and everybody let their hair down at the Conference Dinner at the Fremantle Sailing Club. The Conference provided technicians with information on the future directions the library profession is facing, management of technological, workplace and work level changes, professional development, and gave us a chance to network and meet other technicians from other areas. We also had the opportunity to visit different libraries in the Perth- Fremantle region to see how our colleagues operate in similar types of libraries to our own. We all benefited from attending the Conference, inspired by other Library Techs achievements, their learning, expertise, and personal and professional development. Looking forward to the next Conference in Hobart in 2001! Contributor: Lainey Furness (Lib Tech) (Newsletter Editor) |
