ALIA Far North Coast Regional Group (NSW)

Wednesday 15 March 2006 vibes restaurant at coffs harbour NSW

Meeting was opened at 6:50pm

Jennifer Kirton opened the meeting and thanked everyone for coming. 17 people turned which was boosted by a number of regional public librarians who were in town for the CPLA meeting at Dorrigo.

There were no Secretary or Treasurer reports. Previous meeting minutes were posted to the listserv, and there was no comment or changes to these.

Everyone was encouraged to join the listserv as the primary means of communicating with each other.

The only listed agenda item was 'Activities in the Coffs Harbour region'.
Local members were encouraged to organise their own meetings. Jennifer listed some of the activities that the Lismore meetings have undertaken or plan to undertake in the 2006. These included a Christmas dinner, guest speakers such as Geraldine Barkworth, tours of any new facilities (such as the SCU library redesign).

Martin Field spoke briefly on the new RTL Mobile Library which will be the focus of the meeting on Tuesday 21 March at Goonellabah. Martin also suggested that a future meeting could be held in 2008 to celebrate the opening of the new Byron Bay Public Library.

Jennifer also spoke on plans to ask Dagmar Schmidmaier the incoming ALIA President to visit the region and to meet with local librarians in the mid north and far north coast.

It was announced that Des Stewart had been appointed as University Librarian at Southern Cross University. The meeting acknowledges this achievement with applause. Congratulations Des!

Jennifer said that it was important to acknowledge our achievements and spoke of her satisfaction with having a paper published in the November issue of the Australian Library Journal.

Vicki Glover was introduced as a guest. Vicki is the Librarian at the Orange Agricultural Institute (NSW Dept Of Primary Industries) and was in Coffs Harbour to assist Jennifer with EndNote Training at the National Marine Science Centre.
