ALIA Children's and Youth Services (Qld)January-June 2003Six-monthly report to the ALIA Board of Directors
Anne Spelman - convenor Margaret Kittson resigned as group treasurer April 2003. The position is currently vacant. Group CommunicationThe group communicates via the e-list cysalia. Membership has increased from 112 members (December 2002) to 143 (July 2003). The executive committee met a number of times between December 2002-July 2003 to organise annual seminar Frameworking the Future ActivitiesThe two professional development activities (described below) organised by the group fulfilled the objects of the Association by promoting the free flow of information and ideas and by fostering members professional interests and aspirations. At both events we promoted ALIA and encouraged people to support the Association through membership. AccessEd visitPublic librarians attended an information session at AccessEd http://education.qld.gov.au/accessed/ (Education Queensland's school library service) Wednesday 12th March. The session covered resources available to teachers through AccessEd and information on how AccessEd builds its collections to meet the needs of the curriculum. Frameworking the Future SeminarFifty-seven school, public and tertiary librarians attended the seminar Frameworking the Future. The seminar was held at Moreton Bay College. Queensland University Librarian, Janine Schmidt delivered the keynote address "Libraries Logging the Loop and Making the Link in Education". The afternoon was spent workshopping guiding principles for cross-sectoral co-operation. Treasurers ReportWe held one money generating event Frameworking the Future. $1160 was raised from the event. $945.09 went into catering for the event.
