About

The definition of a Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is not hard and fast, it varies depending on the priorities of the library service and the teenagers involved in the group. This definition is a compilation of typical TAB activities. A TAB is a group of young people who:

• Help library staff plan and promote teen programs
• Give feedback on the library’s teen collections
• Contribute ideas and write reviews, make videos and podcasts for the library’s website
• Work on community service projects
• Discuss books, movies, music, and web sites, eat snacks, play games, and just have fun
• Promote the library as a great place to be
Or any combination of the above!

It is a way in which libraries can gain input from young people about programming, resources and other library matters.

Note:

Teen advisory boards are known by many different names:
TAB Teen advisory board
TAG Teen advisory group
YAAC Young adult advisory council / committee
YAAB Young adult advisory board
LTC Local teen council
YAC Youth advisory council

Each library service will create their own version to suit their own needs.
