ONE WORLD, MANY STORIES! Ideas generated in the group brainstorming sessions at the Pre Bookweek Extravaganza
MAPS
- Map of the world (or Australia), showing the different countries stories / books come from (perhaps enlisting help from the GIS staff at Council?)
- Map of the world showing places where the children in the classes come from (perhaps they can add their own dots)
GLOBES
- Giant colour globe of the world (perhasps children can draw characters to put onto the globe)
- Blow up globes
- Papier mache globes
DOLLS
- Multicultural felt dolls (perhaps the children could dress them in national costumes)
- Dolls from around the world
- Lanterns decorated with figures of people
GENERAL IDEAS
- Alphabet Wings by Ilana M Kresner goes through the alphabet giving a brief paragraph about places around the globe, beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Great tie in.
- Entry arch decorated with pictures of people from around the world
- Outer space theme (aliens / stars)
- Digital photo frame showing different images on the front desk
- The 2011 CSLP summer reading program shares the "One World, Many Stories" theme and we have collected some of the great ideas from our colleagues in the USA as well.
- Zart Art have published "One World, Many Stories" which explores the many aspects of this theme as well as activities for the Short Listed Early Childhood and Picture Books of 2011.
