Key activities held in 2005

PD events and activities:

March 2005: Icebreaker / student awards night. Each year the group awards prizes to library studies students for (a) best student practicum, sponsored by Blackwells Book Services, and (b) best student essay or presentation, sponsored by DA Information Services.
Venue: Central Metropolitan College of TAFE, East Perth Campus.

May 2005: Presentations and a panel discussion on Building libraries for the 21st century. Three guest speakers described current or proposed new library buildings/and or extensions to existing buildings at their respective institution.
Venue: Alexander Library Building, State Library of Western Australia.

July 2005: Presentations and a panel discussion on Future library trends and their effects on service delivery. Guest speakers included the state librarian, and university librarians.
Venue: Edith Cowan University, Mt. Lawley Campus.

October 2005: Topic Research in progress. Academic staff and students were invited to provide an overview of their current research projects.
Venue: Edith Cowan University, Mt. Lawley Campus.

December 2005: Annual General Meeting and Christmas dinner celebration. Fifteen ARL members attended this function.

Networking and social:
Events held throughout 2005 provided opportunities to network and socialise.

Membership recruitment:

Alia membership information packages are displayed prominently at each ARL event throughout the year.
2. The Icebreaker/student awards event held in March each year provides an opportunity to encourage students and new graduates to become involved in ALIA as an adjunct to their professional development.
