Indonesian language teaching supported

The Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade (JACFADT) recently released a report into Australia's relationship with Indonesia. The report contains 28 recommendations. Recommendation 19 proposes that the government restore Commonwealth support for Asian languages in schools (the National Asian Languages and Studies in Australian Schools Program), previously withdrawn by the government in 2002 (Recommendation 19). The cessation of this schools program resulted in a significant net loss of funding for Asian languages in schools.
