ALIAWest

2005 annual report

Key activities held in 2005

In March 2005 ALIAWest held an icebreaker cocktail party event at DLS (Defence Library Service) Information Research Centre at Leeuwin Barracks in Fremantle. The librarian gave a talk on the structure and role of the information centre and highlighted some of the unique aspects of the collection. Attendees were able to wander around the stacks marvelling at the collection of biographies of military people from around the world, or the collection of books on terrorism.

During Library and Information Week in May 2005 ALIAWest hosted an evening of excellence cocktail party in conjunction with the City of Belmont. The evening celebrated excellence in the information industry. The Sharr Medal and ALIA's Excellence Award were presented during the evening. The website for Click06 was launched at the end of the evening. Attendees included past and current members of the information industry as well as members of Belmont City Council and the Department of Education and Training.

Several regional lunches were held outside the CBD to provide an opportunity for members not working in the city to attend.

In December 2005 ALIAWest held an end-of year breakfast in Perth CBD, with a speaker from CAVAL.

ALIAWest is seeking new committee members. The ALIA conference, Click06, will be held in Perth during 2006. Some members are involved in its organisation so ALIAWest will be taking a quieter role during the coming year.

Other:
ALIAWest was co-host with the RMAA and ASA of the Edith Cowan University Early Career Award in Information Services. The ECU Awards gala presentation night was held in July 2005.

Group communications

Biblia, the monthly newsletter continued during the year, with copy provided both by members of both ALIAWest and other information industry groups. Biblia is produced on the ALIA website and is available to all members of the information industry. The editors, Bonnie Rae Bruce and Sharon Coppin, did a wonderful job during 2005 flying the flag while the future of the group was being debated.

Members were contacted through WAIN, the list server run through Curtin University.
