ALIAWest Minutes

For the Meeting held on the Tuesday 02 October 2007, 17.30 at the Department of Health Library.

2. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

3. Business Arising

3.1 The future of Biblia

Jill reported that ALIA is now prepared to host blogs. Biblia will be the first use of this new facility. It was confirmed that this would be a more appropriate forum for Biblia than a free blog site. A post regarding the recent Sharr medal event has been drafted and forwarded to ALIA for placement on the Biblia Blog and names have also been forwarded of those in WA who would blog. It was agreed that we need to advertise this widely and build a community. This will be discussed further at November's meeting.

3.2 Group Succession Planning

The National Advisory Congress will be held on Monday 08 October 2007 at the University of Western Australia Library. A call for new committee members has been sent out with the invitation to this Perth session, although it is still hoped that in future years, the call for new committee members will occur in June.
It was agreed that ALIA support for the Mentoring group be raised under 'Local Issues' at the NAC meeting on Monday as well as ways to encourage participation by new graduates. (Linda will also discuss the latter with Robyn Ellard at ALIA National Office)

3.3 Nexus Study

Linda and Liz attended a recent meeting at the State Library. Gillian Hallam will be at the State Library of WA on Thursday 22 November and will be able to supply the data a couple of weeks prior to that date.

3.4 National Advisory Congress

3.5 2007 Sharr Medal

There was lengthy discussion around the call for nominations for the 2007 Sharr medal, including costs, timing (? call for nominations in early November, advertise on WAIN, closing date in mid February and award to be made in May) and criteria. Liz will revisit her notes from the review meeting held earlier in the year and forward to Alison Sutherland (SLWA), Kerry Smith (Curtin) and Barbara Coombes(ECU) for confirmation. She will also review the online information and forward updated suggestions for comment some time after 16 October, when she returns from Leave.

Ideas for the Christmas Function were discussed. Thursday 13 December at the UWA Library with the possibility of folk music group from 5.30 –7.30 with simpler fare than last year was proposed.
Liz to discuss with John Arfield although it was decided to re-examine the holding of the PLA function AND a Christmas function in light of the proximity of the proposed PLA event to the proposed Christmas function and Christmas.
Marg won't send the request to ALIA for payment of The University Club's deposit until advised by Jill.

6.4 Initiative with PLA

The next event - an afternoon tea – with guest speaker – "Leadership and change management" at The University Club is proposed for Wednesday 21 November. See discussion above at 3.6.
Jill reminded members that it was originally agreed to share involvement with PLA. Another member will need to help organise the next joint event with PLA in 2008.

Linda to host in the first week in November, possibly Thursday 08 November. Venue and date TBC.
