ALIA WA Forum
21 February 2006 meeting minutes
Minutes of ALIAWest meeting held on Tuesday 21 February 2006 at 5:30pm at the Grapeskin Wine Bar Northbridge
Attendance: David Daw-Smith, Nadine Gibbons, Camille Peters, Sharon Coppin, Bonnie-Rae Bruce, Jeanette Hill
Apologies: Kerry Smith, Diane Martin, Cheryl Hamell, Judy Allan, Alison Underwood
Minutes of the previous meeting of 11 July 2005 were approved by Camille Peters, and seconded by Jeanette Hill.
Correspondence: ALIA advised Jeanette that Pam Fedderoe, who looked after the budget at ALIA has resigned.
Reports:
- Treasurer: Report tabled
- Biblia Report: Biblia continues to be published on the web
- 2006 ALIA Conference - Click 06 planning is going well and registration info will soon be available on the web.
Other business:
- Icebreaker: David Daw-Smith offered his library at Department of Land Information in Midland. Tuesday 14 March was set as the tentative date. Subject to being approved by David's management. We will look at catering being provided by one of the nearby cafes.
- Library Week Planning: Library week is to be 22-28 May. Theme has not yet been announced. Look at getting the Constitution Centre which used to be free, we will have to do all our own catering, but they do have a kitchen there. Nadine to see if can get a speaker, firstly the Premier Alan Carpenter, secondly Margaret Allen.
- Sharr Medal Planning:Discussion centred around whether the Sharr Medal was open only to West Australians who studied in WA, or open to West Australians who studied at Eastern States libraries. It was felt that it could be opened to West Australians who studied library studies at an Eastern States University via distance education.
- ALIA Liaison representative for WA: Kay Poustie has resigned as the ALIA liaison representative for WA, members at the meeting wished Kay the very best and hoped that another representative would be appointed soon. It was hoped that someone who was a part-time librarian with time to visit and interact with librarians/library technicians would be chosen so that things like CPD could be dealt with. Although ALIA West has handled some of these areas in the past, that was really during the transition period to the current format of the group and it was felt that work loads and membership numbers prohibited any of the members from becoming deeper involved in ALIA matters and promotion.
Meeting closed at 6:30pm.
Next meeting: No date set, will be after the icebreaker, and we will keep in touch via e-mail.
