- Reports
5.1 Treasurer's report
Amended ALIAWest report tabled. Arachnet costs are proving onerous. Rose to e-mail Kay Schneider regarding unsustainable nature of ALIAWest maintaining the InfoWest database. ALIAWest will pay, for the last time, the Arachnet invoice due in late Feb. InfoWest then has 3 months in which to either transfer the database to the ALIA website or let it lapse altogether.
5.2 Biblia Report
Camille has one article for the January issue. A survey of readership interest will go out in the Jan/Feb issues and if there is less than 10 per cent response, Bibia will cease publication.
5.3 Awards
Sharr Medal
Venues and dates for the Sharr Medal presentation function were discussed, as was the possibility of combining this with the Special Librarian of the Year function. Belinda has secured $500.00 sponsorship from Roger Armstrong of Infovision.
Initial venue suggestions were UWA function area, ECU or E-Central TAFE (adj. Claisebrook Station).
- Other business
6.1 Icebreaker
Suggested venues for this function were Kings Park and Bell's Café.
Maureen's to obtain contact details of other ALIA groups in order to invite them to the Icebreaker and other functions during the year. Also suggested that, by informing them of our functions, there will be less opportunity for clashes of dates.
The idea of a pre-budget meeting/brainstorm session with all groups was also discussed.
AGM planned for June/July.
Ideas for future events were:
- 'Back to the Bush' outdoor function using Maureen's Scout tent and utilising CALM or Det of Ag for props and/or speaker
- 'Nobody knows where the bodies are!' Follows the theme of the 'Future of Librarianship' given that baby boomers are retiring, old vs. young, effects of downsizing, etc. Archives person?
- East Perth Development Corp. talking on the East Perth Cemetery.
6.2 Review of meeting at UWA Medical Library.
Generally considered to be informative and useful. One outcome was that ALIAWest should to approach other groups with a view to co-operative ventures such as functions, CPD etc.
6.3 Library Week
Held over.
- Meeting closed at 7:25pm.
Meetings to be held on 3rd Tuesday in each month.
Next meeting to be held Tuesday 16 March 2004 at 7.00am at the Criterion Café, 560 Hay Street, Perth.
