ALIA WA Forum

4 February 2003 meeting minutes

From the WA Forum meeting held Tuesday 4 February 2003 in Room 2.9 Alexander Library Building, State Library of WA, at 5:35pm.

  1. Attendance
    1.1 Present: Camille Peters, Judy Allen, Belinda Grayson

    1.2 Apologies: Lothar Retzlaff, Deanne Barrett, Stephen McQuade and Carmel O'Sullivan

  2. Minutes of the previous meeting: Accepted Camille Peters, Seconded Judy Allen
  3. Business arising

    3.1 The secretary is to locate and invite past Sharr Medallists to the Library and Information Week event 2003 for the Sharr Medal presentation.

    3.2 Response to Copyright Council Australia re: Training in Perth in September to be actioned by Camille Peters as a CPD activity.

    3.3 The committee will no longer pursue the offer of a cartoon for Biblia from Kim Grace.

    3.4 Icebreaker organised for 11 February as a joint WA FORUM and KISWA event.

    3.5 LPO position description tabled. Office-bearers are to try to make better use of the LPO.

    3.6 HTML Biblia corrections made

    3.7 aliaBIBLIA e-list to be used to announce when Biblia has been published. Camille Peters is the listownwer. List has over 300 subscribers. 240 of these are WA members. Camille to assess the list, delete duplicates and check for non-existent addresses.

    3.8 LPO timesheet and rate of pay issue completed.

    3.9 Budget completed. Judy to seek confirmation of receipt.

  4. Correspondence
    In: LISWA: Use of Room 2.9 confirmation, Nomination for Sharr Medal, CAVAL: Asking for help to promote CAVAL courses in February and March

    Out: Belinda Grayson: Use of Room 2.9

  5. Reports

    5.1 Treasurer's report
    Current Balance as at 31 January 2003 is -$6 547. This is due to the annual funding of the local presence officer.

    5.2 CPD Co-ordinator's report
    5.2.1 CAVAL functions in February and March to be advertised on WAIN.
    5.2.2 Planning for technical tips workshop with Raima.
    5.2.3 Nothing planned for the first Professional Reading Group.
    5.2.4 The one day seminar needs six months to organise and advertise. CPD committee to set a topic and gather speakers.

    5.4 Biblia report
    5.4.1 Joint January/February issue has been published on ALIAnet.
    5.4.2 Camille to use aliaBIBLIA list to push Biblia out to subscribers
    5.4.3 Paige Luff has taken up the advertising co-ordinator position.
    5.4.4 Survey is needed to ask readers what content they want and what they need Biblia for.
    5.4.5 Editor to follow up the offer of an article by Bobbie Bruce on Information Online 2003.

  6. Other business

    6.1 Sharr medal nomination has been received. Committee to seek nominations from Mentoring Group, Curtin University, ECU and Central TAFE. Advertise in Biblia. Extend the deadline until April 30. Selection committee comprised of Deanne Barrett and two others.

    6.2 Committee is to seek a permanent sponsorship arrangement for the LIW event and Sharr Medal. Sharr Medal will cost $355 for the medal. Committee to investigate grants or a major sponsor.

    6.3 Can National Office clarify the position of a local presence officer in Western Australia? secretary to investigate.

    6.4 Name changes needed on Vital Link Online to reflect new office-bearers.

  7. Meeting closed at 6:55pm

Next meeting to be held: Tuesday 11 March 2003 at 5:30pm in Room 2.9 of the Alexander Library Building, State Library of Western Australia.
