ALIA WA Forum

Minutes of the meeting of the WA Forum held on Monday, 8 July 2002.

Present: B R Bruce, B Bruce, J Allan, A Raspa, L Retzlaff.

  2. Minutes of previous meeting. Accepted: B R Bruce.

  3. Matters arising from previous minutes
    3.1 LISEKA response: Done

    3.2 Sponsorship cheque from R. Armstrong
    S Hughes to follow-up: not done

    3.3 Phil Teece visit
    C Peters to follow up: more discussion needed on this: Bobbie to follow-up with Camille.

    3.4 E-mail to membership re office-bearers: done.

  4. Correspondence.
    4.1 In:
    E-mail: Sandra Reid: Sally Reagan (UWA) winner of Libraries Change Lives award.
    E-mail: E. Bardoe re new special librarians award
    E-mail: E. Bardoe forwarded e-mail re CPD in the South West of the State.
    E-mail: Jennefer Nicholson: report on Board of Directors meeting.

    4.2 Out:
    E-mail: B. Bruce call for nominations for office-bearers.

  5. Reports
    5.1 Convenors report
    5.1.1. Not much activity to report energy focussed on getting nominations for office-bearers.

    5.2 Treasurers report
    5.2.1 No new activity to report.

    5.3 CPD report
    5.3.1 Tentative schedule for next few months
    August: PRG Meeting: C.Peters will organise.

    September: Visit by Phil Teece: work with Cheryl Hamil on this.
    Suggested date is 16 September.
    D Barrett has suggested a speaker from DOCEP.
    Venue to be confirmed: Action item B Bruce to contact T Solomons re booking Hollywood Private Hospital Theatrette.

    October: PRG Meeting J H will organise

    November: Seminar: need a topic. (suggestion is return on investment)

    5.4 Biblia
    5.4.1 Biblia has been put together will be sent to ALIA in next couple of days.

    5.5 South West Forum
    5.5.1 Arrangements are going well. We have confirmed the Honorable Sheila McHale as keynote speaker. Great range of speakers.
    We are in contact with our speakers and firming up details of their papers etc.
    Next task is to advertise widely.

  6. Other business
    6.1 Office-bearers: disappointing response.
    J Allan has agreed to be new treasurer.
    B R Bruce to resign as secretary end of September.
    B Bruce to continue as convenor for the time being.
    A special general meeting will be run in August, to tie in with PRG meeting.

    6.2 Formal vote of thanks to Trudy Parker for her services as treasurer, her excellent work over the last three years and her unswerving devotion and assistance in the change management process within the group structure.

    6.3 LIW co-ordinator for next year: B Bruce will write a description of position and will send through to A Raspa for Biblia.

    6.4 Biblia: last edition was very crisp and professional: formal vote of thanks from the convenor to Biblia team. Great to see inaugural cartoon strip! Need to formalise our position regards advertising for Biblia. Action item for A Raspa to query National Office on this issue.
