ALIA West
May 2006EditorialWelcome to the latest issue of Biblia. We seem to have moved to a bi-monthly issues at the moment, a situation which has come about because of lack of time on the part of the editors, and sadly lack of material to print! However, be that as it may, we have a great issue for you this month. We revisit the success of the ALIAWest Icebreaker held at Midland, and congratulate the student award winners from the ARL Icebreaker. We get a chance to enjoy the innovative artwork installed at the TL Robertson Library at Curtin University. I am particularly pleased to see the artwork that has been installed because it is evidence that the library is becoming more than just a repository for books, it is a space and place that sums up the endeavour of the University. It is always a good thing when a library service engages with its community on more than one level. Examples abound in the public library sector. A notable example is the Knowledge Centre in Gosnells. The council took full advantage of building a new library space to integrate the communities interests into the library space. I am particularly fond of the 'community jigsaw puzzles' which are large jigsaw puzzles laid out on tables for the public to add pieces to. More information can be found here. [search under community for the knowledge centre] Library and Information Week is fast approaching. Come and kick off LIW with us at the Fremantle Hospital Library. For more information on LIW check out the ALIA website, Or, see what's on at your public library!
