ALIA West
March 2006EditorialWelcome to the first issue of Biblia for 2006. As fans of Biblia will be aware, we haven't had an issue since December 2005, so this issue is long overdue! We all have a lot of catching up to do, so I have arranged this month's newsletter in a manner that will provide (I hope) the greatest reading pleasure. We start off with catching up on social events, from the first meeting of the WALT group to Jan Partridge's retirement dinner. Following on from that, we have an informative article on the inaugural Transforming Information and Learning Conference held at ECU in October last year. We take a look at what various libraries are up to and then its on to professional development activities for 2006. Two events which will be very interesting are - Making libraries count! Literature, literacy and learning which is the first of the ECU LIS seminar series, and E-commerce for library promotion and sustainability: How libraries can market themselves and their library's services online, the 2005 Dunn & Wilson Oration by Lothar von Retzlaff. Make sure you mark them in your diaries! The most fabulous social event of the year also takes place in March. I am referring of course to the ALIAWest icebreaker. The icebreaker will be on Tuesday 21 March at the Department of Land Information Library in Midland. Attractions will include a guest speaker and a chance to tour a library not usually open to the public. More details will follow shortly via the usual conduits, namely the WA Information Network e-list, the ALIAWest e-list and the events page on the ALIA website. Alternatively you can email the convenor, Nadine Gibbons (please remove '.nospam' from address). And finally, for the benefit of one of our readers, and the general amusement of all, I tender a photo of me as the inimitable Cherie Littlebottom, a stalwart member of the city watch in Ank Morpork, and female from her plaited beard to her high heeled iron shod boots. Happy reading! Bonnie Rae
