Library studies students win top awards

Samantha Cunliffe, library and information services student at the Western Australian School of Management and Business received an award for the Most Outstanding Student - program area of library studies at the Second Annual Awards Evening on Wednesday 18 May. The Awards were presented by Australian of the Year, Dr Fiona Wood at the Sheraton Hotel in Perth.

The awards evening showcased the talent of the class of 2004, bringing together the Most Outstanding Student and High Achieving Student in each of the schools program areas of travel and tourism, financial services, languages, interpreting, library studies, business services and traineeships, management, real estate, mortgage lending, adult migration english programme and e-business, together with representatives from local industries and organisations.

Samantha's award was sponsored by Information Enterprises Australia (IEA) receiving a copy of their best selling e-book The first four minutes: understanding the selection and interview process as well as a gift voucher.

'As a niche specialist employment agency looking after the needs of the library and records management communities, being asked to sponsor the award for the most outstanding student in library studies for a second year was extremely important to us, today's students are our professional future, and we look forward to following Samantha's career within the profession' said Shirley Cowcher, Director of Information Enterprises Australia. 'Both Samantha, as the Most Outstanding Student of 2004, and Tarryn Needham who won the High Achievement Award for 2004, provide the library and information industry in Perth a much needed boost, especially during this period of skills shortages in our industry.'
