The winner of the 2004 Sharr Medal

Michelle Campbell

Michelle was awarded a Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Studies at Curtin University in 2004. She was also presented with the G G Allen Award for Academic Achievement in a Coursework Masters or Graduate Diploma Course and the Information Studies Chapter of Curtin Alumni Prize for Academic Excellence in a First Professional Course. While studying Michelle was selected as a trainee librarian at Curtin University Library and Information Service where she performed reference duties, co-ordinated orientation tours for new students, improved online user guides, and evaluated and rationalised reference resources.

Previously a teacher with seven years classroom experience, she contributed greatly to her school community and now looks forward to contributing to the wider community in her new career as young peoples services librarian at Victoria Park Library. Here Michelle co-ordinates story time programmes, after school book club, holiday activities and promotional events. In addition to all of this in just a short time she has embarked on a range of projects designed to increase interaction between the library and local schools. Admirably she surveyed local teachers and responded to their needs. Notably Michelle worked with the youth community development officer and the local Youth Advisory Council in preparation for displays and workshops that were held at the library during National Youth Week.

Michelle's main objective for her new career is to be actively engaged in professional and community activities. We congratulate Michelle on winning the F.A. Sharr Medal for 2004 and look forward to her continued contribution to the profession. We wish her every success in her career.
