WALTG evening with Colin Bowles

On Thursday 17 March 18 of us met at the Caffe Bookshop in South Perth, on a very balmy evening, for drinks and nibbles and lots of talk, and to meet and listen to best selling author Colin Bowles talk about his life as a writer. Colin, who moved from England to Perth 30 years ago, has written 33 books over the past 20 years. He began writing advertising copy here in Perth before moving to Sydney where he wrote for magazines, newspapers and television before writing his first book. As Colin Bowles he has written humorous novels, young adult and junior fiction. As Colin Falconer he has written contemporary and historical thrillers with his most recently published book, The naked husband, written under this third pseudonym, Mark D'Arbanville. A sequel, The naked heart, will be published later this year.

Colin entertained us all with stories of his struggles and triumphs as a writer, giving us interesting insights into the world of publishing and the art of writing.

As the evening coincided with the Irish festival of St Patrick's Day, all were invited to submit a limerick with a library technician theme.

The winning one went something like this:

Most library technicians wear glasses
And good Catholics attend Sunday masses
Other glasses we'll fill
For St Patrick's day swill
Library technicians on their ...ars... (guess...a bit rude!)

It was a very enjoyable evening with delicious food and good company. Grateful thanks to Thelma Allen for suggesting and organising the evening.
