News from ALIAnet

The following was gathered from the 'whats new on ALIAnet' section of the ALIA website. I have removed the job vacancies. Interestingly I trawled the events pages while I was there and there were precious few events listed for any of the groups even though I know the local WA groups have had and are having events in the next few months. Adding events to the ALIA website is free, and reasonably easy to do. It's a great way to let interstate members know what you are up to.

Redmond Barry Award

John Leonard Dwight is the 2004 recipient of the association's highest honour that can be bestowed on an individual not eligible for associate or technician membership of the association. The award was presented at the ALIA Information Online Conference in Sydney.

Fellowship conferred

The ALIA Board of Directors conferred the distinction of Fellow on Dr Marianne Broadbent, recognising the attainment of an exceptionally high standard of proficiency in library and information science and a distinguished contribution to the theory or practice of library and information science. The award was presented at the ALIA Information Online Conference in Sydney.

Zines!

The February issue of Quill is now online. Along with the regular editorial and tips and tricks, this issue has articles on information professionals, the rewards of volunteering and the new LLO for Queensland.

ALIA SA has released the February issue of InterALIA. Along with regular features, this issue includes what libraries can do to help the Asian tsunami victims, a perspective on 'Chasing the sun' and the benefits of contract work.

The first issue of ALIA Top End's newsletter Interface for 2005 has just been put online. It includes bios of the 2005 committee and articles about the CDU library learning precinct and colloquium.

Keep in touch.

A new batch of webcards have arrived on ALIAnet. Send a webcard to your friend, your boss and/or your children. Plenty of styles to choose from, and a perfect way to let someone know what you think.
