WA Library Technicians Group (WALT) conference grant

The aim of the grant is to enable students and recent graduates of a library technician qualification course to experience the value of a national library technicians' conference. The ALIA national library technicians' conference is a prime source of professional development and networking opportunities for library technicians within Australia and overseas.

The grant is awarded biennially. Entry is open to members and non-members of ALIA. Applicants must be either a current student or recent (two years) graduate of an initial library technician qualification. Applicants must be residents of WA.

Applications for this grant are judged on an essay entry and subsequent interview by a judging panel made up of representatives from the WA Library Technicians Group, WA Forum and a senior practicing library technician.

The winner of this competition is announced at the LIBTWA function for Library and Information Week. Winners receive $1000.00 towards conference expenses, twelve months membership of ALIA and a certificate. The winner is required to submit a 500-word report on his or her impressions of the national library technicians' conference that he or she attends.

Essay topic: Look at ALIA as an organisation and discuss how it can support your career development (800-1000 words)
