We would like to offer sincere congratulations to Lothar Retzlaff (Western Australia) and Beth Clary (ACT) on jointly being awarded the 2004 ALIA National Library Technician of the Year Award. Lothar and Beth have both worked long and hard for many years on behalf of ALIA Library Technicians across Australia.
Lothar has been the National convenor of the National Library Technicians Group, as well as convenor of the Library Technicians Group in Western Australia. He has also had articles published and presented several papers at conferences. Lothar is the current recipient of the 2003 Dunn and Wilson Scholarship.
Beth is the convenor of the ACT Library Technicians and has also had several articles published. Her contribution and dedication to the mentoring and professional development of student library technicians has been outstanding.
Both Lothar and Beth have promoted the roles of library technicians in libraries, raising their profiles, as well as working on issues affecting career paths and professional development.
I am sure you will all agree that both winners are worthy recipients of this prestigious award, receiving recognition not only from ALIA, but also from their peers and colleagues.
