An important date for your diary The title of this seminar is the same as a 2001 article by Professor Carol Tenopir, Professor of Information Sciences at the Center for InformationStudies, University of Tennessee, who is our featured speaker. She is an authority on reading in the digital age, reference services and the use of digital serials. For information on her publications go to http://web.utk.edu/~tenopir/. This is an important issue for all librarians. You are invited to take advantage of this chance to hear an important researcher in the field give her views on the current state of play. There will be extension opportunities for asking questions and giving your own views through a panel discussion.
Jan Partridge Curtin University of Technology Registration form [PDF, 74KB] New Norcia Library LectureThe New Norcia Library Lecture will be held at St Ildephonsus College, New Norcia on Friday 27 August, a month earlier than usual. Anyone in the library world who is interested is invited to come. It is always a good day because of the professional input from the key lecturer and panelists, not to mention the great food and the opportunity to catch up with colleagues. Our key-note lecturer, recommended by Jan Fullerton at the National Library, is Dr Tom Griffiths from ANU, who will speak on collecting culture. He is the author of Hunters and Collectors and Forests of Ash and has been described as a brilliant speaker. He describes libraries as 'the generators and custodians of stories; the greenhouses of our emotional, intellectual and spiritual garden.' It will be a feel-good lecture by a highly sought-after speaker. Our afternoon panellists will be Brian Stewart who looks after Archival Collections at the Battye Library, Kandy-Jane Henderson from the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library, and Cecil Florey, now local historian but past public librarian. They will each speak on collection and/or research processes in our library systems and will join Tom Griffiths on the afternoon panel for a stimulating general discussion. Registration is at 10:00am and the day finishes at 3:00pm, so that you can be back in Perth before 5:00pm. We need names and money by 18 August.
