espace@Curtin

The Library and Information Service at Curtin University is piloting a new initiative to increase the impact and visibility of the University's researchers. Research staff and students can place their pre and post-published material into espace@Curtin - an institutional repository based on the protocols of the Open Archives Initiative. The repository is amongst a small number of similar initiatives in the Australian library sector, and the first in Western Australia. The metadata of records in the repository is harvested and aggregated into search engines of academic research material, thus providing an alternative, open access method of sharing research output. Julie Woodland, of the library's e-Library Development Unit, is developing the pilot phase during 2004, assisting research staff to explore this new paradigm in scholarly communication.
