Partnership proves positive for City of Perth Library
Enhancing the entrance to the City of Perth Library had been an objective for some time. The blank walls facing the lifts created a less than inviting and somewhat claustrophobic entry area.
A mural reflecting the life of the City and the Library's services was seen as an effective way of improving the ambience and drawing attention to the Library and its services as an integral part of the City's life.
A partnership was developed with Mercedes College who generously allowed year 11 students to create a triptych tailored to the space available. Ros Jennings, head of the Art Department, allocated some very talented staff and students to the project. Art teacher Kathy Mills inspired some excellent work from her students - Lauree Coci, Katrina Abdy and Laura Heffernan.
Titled City reflections, City Café and City arches the mural panels give a vibrant view of the City and suggest ways in which the Library is incorporated in everyday life.
Hard work by both Mercedes students and staff of the City of Perth Library culminated in an official unveiling by the Lord Mayor, Dr Peter Nattrass. The local community paper mentioned the event and included a photograph of the students.
