ALIA Board of Directors

My term as director finishes in May and as you all are aware ballot papers for the positions of director and vice-president have been sent out. I encourage everyone to vote as your vote does count and it provide members with an opportunity to participate in the governance of ALIA.

ALIA's Annual General Meeting will be held 20 May 2004 in Canberra and the Annual Report will be published with inCite.

To support the Board ALIA has several Advisory Groups and a list of these Groups can be found on the website. These Advisory Groups provide members will another opportunity to participate in the governance and policy direction of ALIA. I encourage members to respond to the Board's call for expressions of interest in positions on these Groups as they are advertised.

I participated in the WA Members Engagement Workshop held 22 March 2004. A wide and varied group of ALIA members provided their views, opinions and feedback regarding ALIA membership, services and activities. The factors that affect members' involvement in ALIA Groups, the role and function of Groups and what makes a Group successful were discussed. These workshops are being held in all capital cities and in regional Queensland and are the final stage in Initiative A in the ALIA 2003-04 Plan 2003-04. The results of this initiative will be reported at the National Policy Congress in November.

The next Board meeting and my final meeting as a director is 20 May 2004.
