New Librarians' Symposium 2.0

Have you heard about the 2nd New Librarians' Symposium to be held in beautiful Adelaide, on December 3rd-4th 2004?

We are pleased to announce the venue will be the newly refurbished Hilton Hotel Adelaide, right in the heart of the city. Interstate delegates will be able to experience the best Adelaide has to offer, from the trams to Glenelg to the atmosphere of Gouger St and the Central Market. For local delegates, capitalise on the easy parking around Victoria Square and enjoy the opportunity to meet new librarians from across the country!

The symposium theme is Beyond the Stereotype! examining the many ways libraries and librarians are moving 'beyond the stereotype' - not just the 'bun and glasses' image, but what libraries do, how they do it, the services we offer, the way we market ourselves - all the issues that impact upon new professionals.

The program has three streams:

• Career and Life Planning, which will include personal and career development activities, work/life balance and associated issues, as well as personal success stories from your new librarian peers.
• Libraries and the Future, which will encompass the latest innovations and ideas in our profession, predictions and possibilities for future skills, developing careers and new industry directions.
• Libraries and the World, which will address issues of activism and social responsibility, working overseas and the experience of international 'new librarians'.

We will be calling for papers very soon, and we are particularly interested in hearing from new or recent graduates. So if you have an idea for a paper, take the first step and contact the Symposium committee. Details will be announced on the Symposium website.
