ALIA West
June 2003
Library Technician's day breakfast
Almost 30 library technicians gathered at No 44 King Street Café (Perth) on the 13th of May to celebrate National Library Technicians' Day as a part of Australian Library and Information Week. The breakfast (organised by the Western Australian Library Technicians' Group) has become something of annual event, and provides a great opportunity for socialising and networking.
Also at this year's breakfast, the WALTG conference grant was presented. This biennial grant, presented to a recent graduate or student, includes $1000.00 towards the cost of attending the ALIA National Library Technicians' Conference (this year being held in Brisbane). Candidates were asked to write an essay on how they thought ALIA could help them achieve the goals they had set themselves as library technicians.
The grant was awarded to Michaela Shepherdson, who is currently working as a library assistant at Curtin University. Congratulations Michaela, we know you will really enjoy your conference experience!
A special thanks to Judy Allan for helping me organise this year's breakfast and for taking a number of great photos, some of which are below.
