May 2003Shadow of the EagleTwo countries, one destiny - Australia and the USA March 1942. President Roosevelt orders General Douglas MacArthur to leave the Philippines and flee to Australia to help Prime Minister John Curtin in the fight against the Japanese in the Pacific. Coming from opposite ends of the political and social spectrum Curtin and MacArthur forged a relationship which would be crucial to the battle for Australia and the Pacific and have ongoing repercussions for Australia's relationship with the USA. Developed by the Perth Theatre Company in association with the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library (JCPML), Shadow of The Eagle is a dramatic recreation of the first meeting between Curtin and MacArthur. The play has been written by well-known Perth playwrights George Blazevic and Ingle Knight, is directed by Alan Becher and features Geoff Kelso and Michael Loney in the roles of Curtin and MacArthur. Shadow of The Eagle has its world premiere opening on 24 May at the Playhouse Theatre in Perth and the season runs until 31 May 2003.
