ALIA West
December 2002CPD report 2002The CPD committee has run four professional reading group meetings this year. Three of the readings were selected by the committee and the other meeting was on the LISEKA project in order to gain feedback from our members for WA Forum's submission to ALIA. As we were no longer able to use room 2.9 without charge, we switched to meeting at the Dome Café in Northbridge. Due to problems with noise, we changed the venue to Café Pages for our last meeting. Attendance at PRG meetings has ranged between 5 and 10 people.
WA Forum and KISWA held a joint function on 18 September with Phil Teece talking about the NSW Pay equity case and Kerry Tyers from DOCEP discussing recent changes to industrial relations law in WA. There were 26 attendees. There were difficulties in finding a venue available on that date and Villa Italia proved to be too noisy to be able to hear speakers. WA Forum collaborated with WALTG and South West Library Link on the South West Forum held in Bunbury on 14-15 September. This was a very successful event which attracted 65 delegates and received a lot of positive feedback. Due to our involvement in the South West Forum we did not run our own, separate seminar this year. Overall, the year has been a mixed success. The CPD committee has not been able to attract new members and therefore has only had two members for most of this year: the CPD co-ordinator and one committee member, Jeanette Hill. My thanks to Jeanette for her support throughout the year. PRG meetings attract a small group of dedicated people but have not yet become sufficiently popular to be a self-sustaining activity. The September function with Phil Teece was not a success mainly due to venue problems. The South West Forum is the only unqualified success this year.
